Matthew Andrews is co-director of Yoga Center Amherst, where he manages the “behind the scenes” aspects of the business, teaches yoga philosophy, and offers kirtan and chanting. His deepest aspiration is to surrender entirely to the Divine Beloved, and live a life of sacred collaboration and co-creation with the Love that breathes the universe into being. His greatest support in this comes from his teacher Gurui-ji Ma, in whose illuminating grace countless miracles have blossomed in his heart.
Matthew has studied yoga and meditation since 1999, including residential trainings at Plum Village, Auroville, Dhamma Dara, and the Mount Madonna Center, and he continues to receive a steady flow of spiritual nourishment from Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, whose teachings inform his approach to yoga philosophy. Maharaji Neem Karoli Baba, Sri Ramana Maharshi, and Amma are also sources of inspiration and joyful relationship. He completed 500 hours of training in Embodyoga, with which he has a deep and constantly evolving relationship.
Since 2015 Matthew has been organizing and leading group retreats in North and South India, collaborating with Patty Townsend, David Newman, Shantala, and Brenda McMorrow. These retreats are an offering from Matthew’s heart, which bows at the feet of Mother India and the incredible beauty of her culture, geography, and spirituality.
