We have been leading annual retreats to North and South India since 2016. Due to COVID, we have cancelled our winter 2021 retreats. We look forward to traveling with fellow soul adventurers to the sacred land of yoga’s birth as soon as it becomes possible again.

I first visited India in 2000, arriving on my 21st birthday. The experience of being “home” was visceral and unexpected. I felt in love with the Earth, and loved by it, embraced by it like I had never felt anywhere else.

I spent about two months in Auroville then, before traveling around South India, and I always knew that I would be back. India is one of the few places in the world where the ancient indigenous wisdom is thoroughly infused into the social and cultural fabric of day to day life. As a result, the Earth breathes more freely. The Divine Mother has been honored here for millennia, and Her being can be felt resonating in the air, the water, the plants and soil. It is an amazing gift to share my love of India with you, and to organize collective immersions in Her beauty and richness.

“Matthew is a skilled guide who feels at home in India. He has an excellent grasp of local resources and the ability to put together a trip that is well-paced, fascinating, and is adapted to the needs of the group. His blend of enthusiasm, practicality, and calm make him an excellent trip leader. He handled myriad details with grace and skill so that participants could focus on experiencing rather than planning.”

The depth of spiritual seeking and aspiration that gave birth to the yoga traditions is alive and resonant in India. Our retreats offer a chance to steep your consciousness in India’s rich spiritual culture and ancient wisdom. We collaborate with local guides and teachers who share local traditions and art, and provide access to sacred sites with context.

From the gratitude we at Yoga Center Amherst have for all we have been given, we seek to give back and support various aspects of Indian culture and society.  Yoga Center Amherst makes ongoing financial contributions to Mohanam, supporting Tamil cultural heritage preservation and empowerment of youth and women.  Visit their site to learn more or to donate.
